"The Nightcar brings a sophisticated lounge experience to Auckland’s CBD, fusing the energy of an upscale nightclub with restaurant-style service. The design and menus are heavily influenced by owner Daren Zhou’s experience living in Beijing. Ingredients such as osmanthus syrup and Sichuan pepper feature in the cocktails, which guests can enjoy with dishes such as Zha Jiang Mian—noodles with black bean and pork belly. The cinematic interior is inspired by the opulence of train carriages on the Orient Express and the starkness of underground tube stations, as is reflected in the rich colour palette, low ceilings, and atmospheric lighting."
